As canoeists, we know how important it is to protect and preserve the wild spaces that we all cherish. And thus, the Forest Edition paddles were born from that love, crafted to give back to the forests that line the waterways we explore.
We began in 2019 by planting 100 trees, linked to a limited run of 10 Special Edition canoe paddles celebrating our 10-year anniversary. We continued the effort in 2022 with our original Forest Edition canoe paddles, planting one tree for every paddle built and sold. Over the next two years, we added another 194 seedlings through our partnership with One Tree Planted.
In 2024, we celebrated 15 years of wilderness adventures with a goal of planting 1,000 trees. Thanks to your support, we surpassed that goal, planting 1,257 trees and contributing to multiple reforestation projects across North America and around the globe.

With the great success of our 2024 anniversary initiative, we carried it forward again for the 2025 season surpassing our goal of planting another 1,000 trees!
At the end of 2025, we were honoured to be invited by Veritree to participate in their new small business program for the upcoming season. However, with a 150% increase in tree planting costs in North America—and rising costs overall—we’ve chosen to keep things in check and return to planting one tree for every Badger Forest Edition canoe paddle sold.

All Forest Edition canoe paddles feature a unique engraving of an artistic ‘paddle tree,’ custom-matched to the paddle’s blade style and the species of wood it was crafted from—a small reminder of the forest your paddle could help grow.
Please note: the ‘paddle tree’ artwork reflects the hardwood used to build your paddle, not necessarily the species of trees planted on your behalf. Most reforestation efforts will involve coniferous, softwood, or other native species to replenish the forests.

Seedling purchases and planting efforts are coordinated through either Veritree or One Tree Planted depending on the current projects available.
While we’ve recently partnered with Veritree, who take a data-first approach to reforestation by tracking and verifying every tree planted, we also continue to work with OneTreePlanted, a long-time partner helping fund large-scale planting projects around the world. Together, these partnerships allow us to support tree planting in a way that’s both accountable and far-reaching.

Cherry is by far the favoured wood of choice for building paddles at Badger.

Currently our Forest Edition canoe paddles are available exclusively through select retailers found below or directly from Badger Paddles.
Dig this: Every Badger Forest Edition canoe paddle comes with a mini Tree Certificate, numbered to match the official planting certificates (see our Trees Planted To Date page for full details). The mini certificate shows your certificate number and where your tree falls in that planting initiative (as in the example image below). That way, you can easily cross-reference your tree for a bit of curiosity and full transparency!

There are a multitude of reasons for planting trees, but it must be done right. Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. Forests also provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines.
